West Langtry clutch

Aaron Sep 18, 2007 01:00 PM

Here's a pic of a clutch of west Langtry Blair's that hatched a few days ago. I incubate on vermiculite and after they hatch put them in another container with wet newspaper until they shed. I like to leave the clutch together until they shed because I think in the wild they might stay toghether to and I think they feel more secure. I find if you leave them on vermiculite it sucks the moisute out of them and they get stuck sheds, hence the ugly newspaper, I know it looks dirty but it's just wet. Today they will be moved to individual cages with wood shaving substrate and offered their first meals. After several years working with these I can say the darker ones will almost surely loose all their red and become nice dark gray and black banded snakes with little white pinstripe borders.

That a healthy looking pile of snakes, Aaron. Do you have any pictures of the adults? I'm curious how they'll turn out.

Yes I do.

This is the father, wild caught by me 6 miles west of Langtry.

This is the mother, an F1 I produced. She is the daughter of the male above and the female below.

This is the mother's mother, she is a wild caught I collected 8 miles west of Langtry.

GREAT looking clutch Aaron!! I am sure you will find some keepers in there!

I keep all of my hatchlings together on vermiculite till after the first shed, but i add a couple of cups of water to the mixure to raise up the humidity and it seems to help with shedding..

Good luck with your new ones..

I need a male from you... so can the dark dark brown blair with grey be a male that you are willing to send to Texas?

(remember I have a female West Langtry blair from you that is almost ready to go)

Congrats on the clutch!

Thanks. I haven't sexed them yet but with nine of them I would think there would be a male in there for you. I will send you a personal message.

Neat! I hatch and allow my coastals plains milks to shed in a similar fashion.
