Breeding Age/Size??

LloydHeilbrunn Oct 19, 2007 11:35 PM

I have a generic pair consisting of 2004 Male and 2005 Female. What is the minimum age/size to try to breed these guys??

Thanks.

Sometimes you will hear 18 months or two years as a minimum. I doubt it for graybands, I think it is 3 years minimum to be safe for the females. I have a 2003 female that bred sucessfully this past spring at about 45 months, I also have a couple 2005's that I night try this coming spring at about 33 months I guess. I really think it depends on the individual animal. Males could be good at a younger age than females, but I don't know for sure.

Size of the male does not really matter too much, but females have to endure egg laying. So, I agree with Jim, it really depends on the individual animal.. I have had some go at 3 years and others that fed well throughout thier lives but just did not get the size on that i felt safe to breed them. I always put the safety of the animal first and wait another year.

Post up a pic of your snakes and put somthing in the pic like a dollor bill so we can offer a more educated opinion.

Is that your female or your male??

If it is the female she is too small to breed this coming spring in my opinion. I would feed her well throught he winter and try to get some size on her for next year..
