Unfortunately, never had the fun of herping alterna land but just read this in the NYTimes. Is preserve the same as the local?

The preserve can be considered part of the lacale, but is not the part that has been historically searched for herps. For the most part herpers have stuck to Hwy 118 and its ROW which winds through the Xmas mountains, but not the preserve. The rest of the Xmas is privately owned by numerous individuals.

If you have interest in alterna you should make it out to WesTexas some summer. Once you make that first trip, that interest only intensifies. On the other hand, it might be smarter to stay away, lest you become like the rest of us on this here forum.
