pre-ovulation feeding?

syndicate559 Apr 03, 2008 06:39 PM

I've got a female coming in tomorrow who has bred for a few weeks. After she's settled in from the travel, should I try to feed her and see if she takes it or wait to see if she ovulates and becomes gravid? This will be my first experience with a gravid female if it happens and I just want to be sure of the feeding schedule. Thanks for the help.

Eddie

A female isn't gravid until she ovulates anyway, so I would treat her just like any other snake I purchased. Give her a week or so to let her get settled before you offer food. If she is gravid chances are she won't eat anyway. Although..... just because she refuses food doesn't mean she's gravid just like it isn't a guarantee that she's not gravid if she does eat. It's just less likely. If you have a male I would give him a chance after she settles and see if he's interested just in case. Hope this helps....a little....maybe.

Don't assume she is gravid. When she settles down try and feed her. If she is close to ovulation she should not eat. If she eats she is probally not there. Want hurt to try.
