This should be the year that we will know for sure if a super is possible.I think since they were first produced in 2002 the results are in but the big breeders didnt want that info out.I hope I am wrong.

I think that is what I'll require for my future recessive projects. You can find "100% HETS" any old place these days. But the 110% Het -- talk about really increasing your odds!!! Can you imagine how a 110% or 120% (if 120% would EVER be possible) would change the odds on double and triple recessive projects. Oh ya -- that's the ticket!!

If I recall correctly, Doug Barr had calico x calico eggs a couple years ago for the first time and his incubator cooked hundreds of eggs. I am sure somebody out of that south Florida group will do it enough this year to know. Maybe they are just nice looking calicos or maybe they are just calicos that are dominant that look like any other calico. Who knows. They may have produced supers for a couple years and just won't know unless they breed them.

or it can be just like the spider and there is no super or they just didn't want to let anyone know and they have an army of killer super calico's just ready to own the market, lol.

Well, I don't know, but I think there have been no clutches with more than 3 good eggs, so that is the problem. Really there are not many adult female Calicos out there. Remember though they have been around a bit to raise a female to adult size takes a while! I believe that this year is the first year that a few people will have a good shot at it. The fact is a great calico on it's own is awesome and a calico pastel is fabulous. I just got a clutch of 10 from VPI axanthic to calico I'm really excited about. I for one will report any clutch of calico x calico that has a reasonable amount of eggs that doesn't show something different-bit even so it is a 1/4 so it will take a number of clutches to disuade me from trying!

It takes 17 babies to get to a probability of 99% that there was at least one baby with a pair of calico mutant genes (homozygous calico). I figure that is 3 medium sized clutches. I would not stop trying even then.

Please open any eggs that go to term but do not hatch. Some lethal mutant genes kill the homozygous individuals shortly before or shortly after birth/hatching. I am not saying that homozygous calico IS a lethal condition. I am saying that it's a good idea to check for it, just in case.
