Its not a Ball python, but its AWESOME! First carp ever.

Those things are a blast to catch! They aren't fit to eat, but if it's a fight you're after they can take it to you!

I remember taking my wife fishing for the first time.
She is a tiny little thing....and she hooked a HUGE carp!
It nearly pulled her into the river!
I was laughing so hard...I had tears in my eyes. lol
Finally the fish broke the line...and my wife was totally worn out. Panting, exausted...with her eyes all bugged out.
Man, I could not stop laughing!

All she would say was, "Why wouldn't you help me???"
I was just too busy laughing...and I knew the fish was practically worthless, as far as eating goes.

Nonetheless...
It's always GREAT FUN to hook a big, fat, nasty, carp!

...I'm just a crazy Minnesotan, but growing up with my "nature boy" grandfather gave me a different outlook on carp.

My grandpa was the kind of guy who would collect acorns and eat them right on the spot... if there was something else living in the acorn... he would simply say, "He doesn't eat much." and proceed to pop the nut into his mouth.

Yeah, Grandpa is a little more adventurous with nature than I am but he made a GREAT carp.

99% of the people I know have never tried carp and yet most will say that they are worthless for a meal. I think this is one of those cases where it all depends on the preparation and method of cooking. Sure, carp have a lot of bones but beyond that if they are made right they can be tasty.

I have an uncle that swore up and down that he would never eat carp because they were "bad fish". I remember when Grandpa fried up a big meal with "fish" as the main course - it wasn't until after everyone was finished and my uncle had not only complimented my grandpa but had also asked for the recipe when Grandpa told him what he had been eating.

Trust me, if it's made right it can be great. (Hell, people eat bugs in other parts of the world... carp can't be as bad as tarantula... can it?)

I went on a canoe trip down the Crow Wing River in MN.
That was a LOT of fun!
While I was in MN we caught a huge carp.
We thought it might be good eating...
So we cut it open, to clean it...

GREEN INSIDE!
NASTY!

(perhaps better tasting than Tarantula? I don't know about that either)

Needless to say, we decided not to eat the carp.

I've heard it is supposed to be pretty tasty if prepared correctly. But it may also depend on what the carp are feeding on.

If the meat is Green...
It's gonna taste unclean!

At least that's my theory...
I'll admit, I have no evidence to back my theory up.
(and I'm not ready to do any research either!) LOL.

I enjoyed hearing the story about your Grandpa.

I tried an acorn once when I was younger. Spit that crap right back out. It was naaasty. Don't know how your grandfather ate them.

I always thought they were supposed to be toxic unless you boiled or roasted them first....something to do with the tanic acid content.
I never ate a raw acorn. Perhaps I am wrong.
(Then again, is Grandpa still alive!?!?!)

my Family has owned a fish market here in dallas for the last 40 years and we have never sold carp. but buffalo is one of our best sellers and im pretty sure that is a buffalo in the picture. and if you eat just the ribs and the backbone and throw away the fillets its ok just a little greasy. as for the taste of carp its very greasy and just about nasty. but if you want to taste something good try some Gar. only thing though is you have to eat it hot

I've caught all manner of freshwater fish, but nothing has snapped more of my lines than the good ol' carp. That's a whopper & I'm sure he put up a good fight.

Probably used to be someone's goldfish. Haha.
