I would love to own one of these one day. They are way out of my price range right now, but when do you all think they will become more readily available. It's been a while, but it seems like there are still hardly any of them out there. Anyone want to share some pics or breeding status?

Have you heard of the ball python industry standard for commercializing a new morphs/project.

A handfull of breeders are working with the Banana/Coral Glow mutation, they are producing these in limited numbers and shelving them, growing them and producing more future breeding stock.

When one of these breeders starts offering them to the general market, the others follow suit and price wars start form there. Whoever had the most on his shelves and produces the most offspring will cash in for the next 2-3 years and then everybody will be able to afford a Banana/Coral Glow a few years after that, put that in your pipe and smoke it evil one!

The last one available was a female Banana and he was asking $50K for that one, what price will they be once they hit market?

Who knows BUT i'll be there to dance with that amazing mutation.

I could be TOTALLY wrong! Also, I am in no way judging how these, or any breeders, handle their collections. I don't mention any names in this post because I don't feel it is appropriate. I do feel it is appropriate to discuss any project anyone has made public -- just maybe -- it is our responsibility as a community.

I admire the patience/discipline a rare few show in keeping control over a project until they understand what it is or what it does. In fact, I continue to watch and learn about how experienced breeders manage their projects. I have a few myself that I need to give some thought as to how I want to proceed.

If you were to include the Whitesmoke (many think it and the Banana are the same sort of snake), only 3-4 breeders own these snakes and don't seem as though they are going to let them go for less than 2004-05 "killer new morph" money. I bet they will continue to take them to shows with BIG sales price on them, continue to make more base morphs, more combos, and fill their racks with them. This would change, of course, if they were to sell/trade one/some to a breeder who would not only breed them -- but also sell them. They are aware of this fact, and so they are not aggressive about letting them out of their collections for less than what they think they are worth with given what else is 'out there". These are THEIR PROJECTS and they have the right to handle them how they see fit. I personally don't believe that they are responsible to make them available -- no matter what the cost. Their snakes, their projects -- and it was their "roll of the dice" with their time, money, energy, and FORETHOUGHT!!! Both morphs are AWESOME!!! We can all agree on that. Would like I LOVE to have one in my collection(even an ugly one -- if there is such an animal)? YOU BET YOUR BOOTS!

There were not very many of them around because up until last year all the ones ever produced were females. There are 4 people I know of that have them and only about 8-10 animals. Last year Will hatched a couple males out so now he should not only be able to produce many more of them but also find out if there is a visible super form.

I'd have to agree with Bill, when you run a business you have to protect your investments, and a responsible bussiness studies and tests any product or in this case (animal) before putting it out on the market, it's just business, and "they" are just being smart about it, it's nothing personal and not productive to make it that.
And hey, just maybe, many years ago when I was in college I would have put that in my pipe and smoked it, ahhhh but those were the good old days when life but a dream and now everything is so damn complicated

ehhh who wants derma balls. i remember reading somewhere that they weren't genetic anyway but i dont know if thats true or not.

I thought the Derma was pretty wild looking myself. I always wanted to touch it to see what it felt like... I think alot of people didnt like the brash owner so the Derma got a bad rap.

I am pretty sure that Justin lost the derma ball. He told me that he had bred it to normal girls and gotten normal looking babies that he planned to raise and breed back to dad but I don't think anything ever went right for him. He really was not a bad guy if you got to know him, just a bit screwed up like most of us at times.

So maybe it was genetic. I've seen scaleless kingsnakes or something that were genetic.
