Are poeple not allowed to comment on photos? If I posted a pic, I would want to know what was good/and or poor about my picture. It would make it a hell of alot more interesting.

It is clearly stated at the bottom of the post that starts off whatever current contest:

*Note* Conversation posts within a designated 'contest' thread will be removed. If you wish to engage someone in conversation, please do so outside of the contest thread (preferably on another forum such as the Open Discussion Forum). Thank you.

This means if you want to discuss the photos you can take that conversation to another forum...this could be the open discussion forum (which was the example used), the photography forum or even the particular forum that the contest is being held for (as in the case here at the moment the corn snake or the arrowfrog forum) - the conversations just cannot happen within the contest thread itself.

The reason for this is simple...it disrupts the ability to keep the contest neatly organized for the purpose of people entering and later the voting portion of the contest. Some of these contests are going to have a large volume of posts for both entries and votes and to allow conversations to take place while the contest is still ongoing would spin things out of control.

The only other option is to either wait until after the contest voting portion has been closed before initiating conversation within a contest thread or emailing the person privately with your comments.
