Photo Casting Call

phwyvern Jun 28, 2004 09:54 PM

I am going to try something a bit different this time around. Instead of a predetermined round of contests, this is going to be an open casting call for herp photos.

Some forums have photos on their main page while others do not. Several photos were hand selected from the photo galleries while others were winners of photo contests. Some forums had photos at one time, but the author's of those photos for one reason or another removed them from the photo galleries which results in no photo showing up on the forum anymore.

In an effort to fix some of these problems I am holding an open casting call.

Look through the forums on kingsnake.com, kingsnake.ca (kingsnake Canada), and kingsnake.co.uk (kingsnake Europe). If you find a forum with no photo on its main page and you think you have one that would appropriate for it, share it HERE. Don't limit yourself to just the species forums - there are other more general forums that can use photos as well.

The selection of the photos by pethobbyist staff that ultimately will be used on the various forums will be based on the appropriateness of the subject matter and where they may best fit in among the forums between the three kingsnake sites.

RULES

Photos MUST be uploaded to the PetHobbyist photo galleries. Photos submitted that currently reside on websites other than the PetHobbyist Photo gallery will not be accepted. PetHobbyist photo gallery: http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/

Photos should be clear and in focus with the animal/object preferably being the subject of attention.

Watermarks on the photos are acceptable as long as they are minimal in size and do not noticeably detract from the photo itself.

Photos ideally should range between 160x120 and 640x480 in size. It is helpful to try and resize photos prior to uploading them to the gallery.

The Terms of Service of this site still apply. All submissions must be photos that belong to you. You may not use another person's copyrighted photo.

Have Fun with it! This is not a cutthroat competition for only professional quality photos. In other words, don't take it too seriously and get all bent out of shape. We just want people to enjoy sharing their photos in a fun atmosphere.

When posting your photos, please remember to label them as to what animal they are. I'm pretty good at figuring out many species/subspecies, but even I have my limits. Some forums require very specific types of animals and it would help a lot to be able to find a photo here already labeled to make the hunt easier on me.

Caught this little fellow last September or so. I have since seen one or two of his brothers this year in the park/wildlife area where I live. Nice to see their population is strong. I think these guys are beautiful even if they are so "common."

Feel free to use my conda pics on any forum that it would be appropriate. I dont browse the canada or uk sites much so if it can be used there go for it. I also think its a better pic than the one for the conda forum on ks here. Just my opinion. lol

I tried the photo. When the photo is huge and you can see the snake up close it looks great but when resized to fit the forum screen it just seems that the nice detail of the snake is getting lost.(look at the pine/bull/gopher forum to see what I mean). Do you perhaps have a version of that photo that is more of a closeup with more of the background cropped out of the photo that we can try?
