First shed as a owner.....

almeizy Jul 02, 2004 02:39 PM

This is the first shed that i have experienced as an owner. He did pretty good, most of it came off at once except for a little piece at the tail and he still has to finish shedding on his head. Everything is perfect on my tank, temp, hide spots, humidity, etc so I know I am doing things right. What can I do to help him get the remaining shed off his head? And... the next shed should come off completely at once correct?

Well, what I've done when one of my balls is first soak it in some water, supervised ofcourse. Just keep it in the water for a little while. This loosens the skin up, and should easily come off by gently rubbing it in a downward motion. The eyecaps are the hardest to remove if they are retained. I do not advise this to be done by just anyone. I've done it with some tweezers. In my opinion this should be done by someone experienced. Some vets will do it for free to help you out. Just make sure in the end that all the dead skin is removed otherwise this will create problems with the snakes growth and circulation. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
