Introducing the new......couch-u-bator

macgano Jul 06, 2004 08:26 PM

Short on space...running out of room...

You need another incubator!
Your significant other needs a place for quality time....

Have I got a solution for you!

THE COUCH-U-BATOR

Lockable, temp and water resistent. Keeps cold out and heat in when you need it. You can even quick peek anytime day or night...just lift that little skirt!

This one wins the award for "most creative secondary use for an incubator"! I like this idea. Are you using heat tape on the bottom? If so, what size? Did you build it yourself?

11" heat tape along the entire bottom connected to RANCO on/off thermostat.

Heat tape is set at 101F keeping inside the boxes at an exact 87-88F.

3/4" foam insulation lines the melamin.

Boxes are resting ontop of wire pantry shelfing approx 1" above the heat tape.

Basically a converted boa cage, has worked perfectly for years.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I was going to build my own larger incubator this fall. It was going to be more vertical than the couch-u-bator. I was also thinking or using a ceramic heat emmiter hooked to a ranco instead of heat tape. Not sure if that will work though. I may just go with the heat tape. Thanks for sharing this info!

I'll be needing a 12-clutch incubator by '05/'06 breeding season. The reduced pattern male I bought from you in '02 will be ready to breed back to his 5 daughters by then. Should prove out if he's het albino and the genetics of his reduced/banded pattern, then I'll probably try to sell off that project to make room for pieds & hets. I am planning on building it by next season, the couch concept is definately something I hadn't considered! The last PHX expo was pretty lame for BP's, you might have done well here. Hope you make it back down here sometime.
