Ugh...it missed us last time, but I know it affected several people on this board...who is going to be the victim this time? Everyone has already gone into panic mode...bread and water is all gone from the stores...blah blah blah. Hopefully, we're spared again, and hopefully this time no one gets hit hard.

Once again, I'm worried about the power going out for a long period of time and my "montane" chams getting too hot. I'm already debating loading them all up and taking them to my father's house who has a generator. Sheesh...what a pain...

Guess I'll just watch and wait....

I work at the hilton on 200 as a breakfast n lunch server, when charley came around the friggin hotel looked like a storm shelter... im tired of it.... i went to the new walmart on 27th and all them old people are fighting over Duracells and bottled water and lattern fuel..

I am in southeastern, NH. I LOVE bid snowstorms! All the wind, gray sky, LOTS of snow - and invariably the next day is bright, sunny and weirdly quiet - love it!

We had a nor'easter in the middle of february last winter! NINETY TWO CENTIMETRES of snow!!!

duno how much that is in inches, roughly three feet however.

people who are actually from FL are a rare breed! 4 1/2 years there and I met only one person who was from Venice, FL all others are transplants. Actaully I think Sonia is a true Floridian, too!

LOL! I guess you are right...come to think of it. Where I live there are actually a few families here that have been here for many generations. The funny thing is that everyone used to know everyone around here...and now it's grown so much that the old crowd is in the minority now...when before there was no one else...haha.

Now, we get the snowbirds...who drive slowly with the huge black sunglasses (if you can call them that)...LOL Talk about road rage...try running granny off the road because she's going 10 mph. hehe

Personaly I like it here...even if we have to deal with a few pesky huricanes....last major one to hit "my" area of FL was Donna back in 1960...so I guess it was time for something to happen...

LOL! That's how I feel about our snowstorms up here - pesky, actually I enjoy them

I remember Donna -but on Long Island! I was 6 years old and my sister and I were hugging our willow tree (I guess I have been a tree-hugger my whole life!), Tiger (b/c of his "striped" bark), b/c we were afraid he would "break" like the neighbor's! I will never forget my Mom running across the backyard screaming for us to get inside! She was frantic - understandably - ;-/ LOL!

I actually love it here too...the summers are hot and humid, but as long as you have access to water to swim in and good a/c it's no biggie. The falls and "winters" here are great...can't beat that weather...and spring isn't too hot until just before summer hits.

I can't stand being cold, so I guess I'm in the right place.

I actually hate it here, i moved here in 1997 from connecticut, and florida blows. to many pedifiels, old people that cant drive and this friggin crappy wheather!!! florida is a good place to visit but living here blows!! specially if you live "In the heart of horse country" geez

I agree in that I would not choose to live there again, but I also made the choice to leave and come back up "nor'easter" way. LOL!

Yeah, Lele, I agree...Mister Pokey, why don't you move? Obviously, you don't have "roots" to hold you back. Old geezers, yes, pedophiles, well, I actually haven't heard of any more here than any other place, so I don't know where that came from.

The "heart of horse country" is wonderful for those of us that have horses...it's beautiful land, we generally don't get the brunt of hurricanes (ok, will I be eating my words later? hahaha), and it's nice an quiet here. If you're looking for a party town, you're in the wrong place...that you would be right about. haha One man's treasure is another man's trash. To each his own....

I moved here 3 yrs ago from NY. Yes its hot but better this than me and my dad/mom digging out of 2 ft plus of snow in dark dreary weather.
Plus its a herps paradise and my chameleons love it here.

Lol I lived in NY . Hate the snow,ice cold. I love Miami. Have 2 jacksons in big out door planted cages and lots herps in the area.
The storm passed us but sadly it hit others.. I still prefer this than snow and 5 months of semi gloomy dark weather.

What types of montane chams do you keep? you prefer to house them indoors rather than lets say shaded out door planted hanging enclosures?
I live in Miami have 2 male jacksons in seperate planted large screen cages. I initially had them indoors but they just seem much happier brighter green outdoors. Granted its hot.
They get misted every day 3 times day unless nice rain than I mist at night if dry. They have semi shaded cages but tho its hot they both enjoy basking than move back and forth between that and shade.
Their colors just seem nicer outdoors they are bought in tho from Late Nov more or less to early March and hurricane warnings but not reg rains.

I have c.j merumontanus and c. quadricornis. Actually, I don't prefer to keep them indoors, but they can't take the heat...I'm even sweating because IF this storm comes our way and knocks out the power, it will get too hot for them without the a/c...even with misting all the time. The heat plus the humidity is just too hot for them.

Now, come fall/winter, they'll go outside as long as it stays cool enough.

Okay thanks. Hope you didnt lose electricity. I saw on news so many have. Here in Miami it was just rain we got lucky. I did bring my chameleons inside tho just incase.
