My chameleon is aproximatly 2 and a half years old (veiled), and is so aggressive he hides most of the day. Is this normal??? How do I convert him to being nice again??? He started to become aggressive a year ago and I thought it would fade away, but it didn't. He will eat out of a dish, and drink out of a dish, and is in good health but so aggresive, and he hides most of the day. If he sees you when he's out he runs and hides. Sometimes I walk in the room and he hisses just from the noise of me coming in. I really wish I could hold him, or at least watch him again. Also he did mate once, so could that add to his terriotal aggresion?

A really aggressive cham would not be hiding all the time. Rather, he would be displaying, defending his turf and reacting to you in plain view first. This sounds like a cham who is really defensive, stressed, and insecure. It would have nothing to do with breeding if he is not sharing space with any other cham or can't see any others. Are you sure he can't see other animals from his cage? Is it near a big window that might have views of something threatening outside? Did his environment or view change back a year ago? How much cover is in his cage? It could be he needs more of a "screen" of foliage along the sides of the cage to filter his view. I've done this by attaching flat sprays of silk leaves around the outside of the cage to filter how much of it is open to view.
