Hello all!
I just wanted to say how nice it is to have a forum where respect for the fellow posters is the standard of the day, rather than the exception. I feel that this forum makes it easier for the newer chameleon to post 'stupid questions'. I for one never tire of seeing these sort of questions. I would MUCH prefer to see these same questions being posted again and again, rather than have someone who is unsure of what they are doing continue with less than perfect husbandry for fear of facing a forum's wrath and amonishment.
I also have lots of respect for our regular posters. I do not like it when the occassional troll comes in and starts stirring things up JUST to stir things up. Or worse, uses derogatory language towards our regulars. They deserve better (as we all do!) than to be addressed in that manner. I'm very glad that we're fortunate enough to have a regular participating moderator here that sweeps up for us and takes out the TRASH.

Its ever so nice to have a forum where anyone can ask whatever they want and have a "friendly" response to their question. Even irrelovent questions are answered! I dont know about you, But Iv'e posted questions on other forums and I was literally "kicked out" of the forum for asking a question, thats why I absolutely LOVE this forum. Its nice that you appreciete things like this Victor!

I can ask strange bug questions without even hearing any 'gross' comments. Seems most cham owners have an apreciation for bugs, even if it's out of necessity. Or even if they don't apreciate bugs at the very least our fellow forum members are respectful enough to allow the bug bantor to go on without interruption.
Maybe it's because when they post their 'poop question', no one makes any Beavis and Butthead type remarks.
I dunno. Maybe we're ALL just a bunch of nuts in our own right, and we like the virtual company of fellow nuts.

I think part of it is that keepers who work with chams for very long need to be a bit more sophisticated than those who don't. You also need to be patient, a careful thinker, and someone who puts more disciplined effort into complicated setups. I think people like this just let the dumber stuff roll off unnoticed. Maybe that's another reason we don't have many trolls here. They get bored because no one else rises to the bait. It wasn't always like that. One or two of the really early cham forums were quite nasty.

Dead on! I dont mean to be steriotypical when I say this, but chameleons are the more difficult and expensive reptile to care for, and usually the more mature ones purchase them. Which sort of makes you more mature in the long run. There are those few people who are immature and irrational, who can be absolute jerks, but they dont seem to stick around to long. I guess we bore them, lol..Just kidding.

I have been here for over 2 1/2 years (wow) and any issues are quickly dealt with - uh...even when someone with a good rep posts something that violates the rules and regs (unintentionally, of course).

Some of the other "oldies" here will remember the issues with The Sheriff. lol! Jerk. uh-oh, now he's going to get me! :-O

I think it will be picture posting time again soon so we can "meet" all the newbies (and those who were too chicken to post the last couple times...hey Vic - did we ever "meet" you?????

Oh, and I do agree fully that having an active moderator is key to the "health" of a forum and I think all the KS forums that I have been on keep things pretty darn nice

Now I don't know WHO The Sherriff is/was, but I almost GUARANTEE that (s)he's still lurking about. I found most of Sherriff's posts funny, but to a point. The line was crossed into bad taste on several occassions, but overall I think those posts were just made in fun.
Now for the position of Forum Father-
I nominate Carlton!!!!
He's like the Howard Cunningham of the forum. Never gives bad advice and only RARELY loses his calm- never his composure though. Always comes through with well thought, well formulated answers.
Me, I'm more like the Forum Uncle Charlie (from My Three Sons).
I can be a bit crabby, but I'll still put on the apron and make ya up some soup until Dad comes home.
