Finally done with work for the summer and enjoying a break at our cottage. I noticed along the shoreline that there is a ton of washed up logs/branches etc that have been rolled smooth. I was curious if anyone knew whether these might be safe to bring back and furnish a cage with?(Just visited the toledo zoo and I am now inspired to redecorate ) Are there any wood species to stick away from? The general tree up here is Cedar, but like I said these branches have been soaked, smoothed, and washed up on shore from the lake for awhile.
ALSO, does anyone know first hand whether there would be any probs taking them across the border? Live plants I already know are a definite "Dont even think about it", and are confiscated immediately, but as for dead wood, I wonder if there would be any probs?

After thoroughly washing down the wood, put each peice in the oven for 20 mintes at 350 degrees while watching it for safety. Then let it sit for a minimum of 5 hours or so.

If the peice is too large, fill a garbage bin with water, then add one full cup of bleach and let sit completly submerged overnight. After taking it out, rinse with water, let it dry out completly and then Rinse once or twice more.

I think that should do the trick. Maybe verify with another person, but I have read to do this on a couple websites.

How was the Toledo zoo. I have been wanting to go but I haven't been able to go. Did they have chams?

Yes they did actually, they had a pair of Panthers in the reptile house, in a really well laid out setup with ficus and drippers etc. (hence the redecoration urge/reason for this post lol) but I didnt see any other true chameleons though. I believe they had a large male veiled a couple years ago but no sign of him now. I definitely recommend going soon, they have the "Dragons" exhibit going on now, which is pretty much where anything with the word dragon in it is displayed. It was kinda silly the make believe half, but the live animals were very neat. The best part was the Komodo dragon. He was just too cool! I can clearly see now how possible it is for them to take down deer and even humans. They are huge! And of course im the only person at the glass telling him how cute he was and making kissy noises at it... People were staring at me kind of funnily, dont know why...

Awsome. Ill be there next week for sure. My girlfriend lives about 10 min away from the zoo. Man now im regretting not going sooner.

LOL Komodo Dragons are awesome to see in person. They have one at Busch Gardens. I was almost nose to nose with the thing...except for the glass between. Komodo Dragons are such fascinating creatures. The fact that they kill their prey just because the saliva dripping from their mouth is full of bacteria....I think it's salmanila (sp?) or E. Coli. Craziness!
