Last night I was over with bunch of people that used to work at the conservation center in Victoria that closed down last September. One of them has so so many animals and she's going away to Calgary for a few months that she asked me to permanently keep her panther Chameleon. OK I get a 5H*3L*2W'5 foot cage for it for free. I get branches, heat lamp, UV light thermometer, humidity reader. Ok the thing is I would like to know the humidity needs, the temperature and other aspects of there husbandry. The other choice was an injured Blue tongued skink but my mom thinks they look too much like snakes so a no-no and It would cost too much in medical bills so the panther all the way. I helped take care of the chameleon when it was at the conservation center so I have some experience with it. I get everything for free which is really nice and it's feeding and looking great since I saw it only a month ago. Any help would be great.

Oh I forgot to add it is pretty friendly when I handled him he just climbed on me like a tree.Which I thought was quite nice that he was well behaved

What color is he/she? It sounds like you have the beginning of a beautiful friendship!! Your equipment sounds great, make sure he has uva/uvb light (Reptisun 5.0 - maybe 10.0 based on the size of your cage) and a basking light. Make sure there are plenty of LIVE plants. I cannot stress enough how important that is compared to fake...they keep the humidity up..do not rot....all around better for the panthers. What has he been eating? Were you given a gutload for your feeders?

Yeah I got the repti sun. It's actually on loan from the conservation center so possibly in a year or so If they make a new one they'll take it back or the other male they had. I haven't got it yet I'm probably first week of September. If I can remember he was mostly red with green or blue bars. The majority of his diet was crickets with the odd silkworm or waxworm and sometimes other insects I believe, I've got calcium and vitamin and mineral supplements already. I have gut load on hand. I also have water sprayer to keep humidity up. I can't believe it because my mom who doesn't like reptiles agreed to the panther before I knew about it. He's a full grown adult male and I think he's 2-3 years old because that's about how long they had him at the conservation center. I think his local is Ambanja. Thanks for the adviceand I know about the vet bills but the other reptile had severe injury and she just spent several hundred bucks at the vet so It would be a pain.

Yeah I'm going over there on tuesday to help her with the skink and see the chameleon. I'm going to bring my dad's digital camera and get a photo of him and show it to you guys. She's got so many animals she's got a buch of budgies, cockatiels a pair of eclectus parrots, Madagascan love birds, red crested turaco, 2 slow lorises, 8 Jamaican fruit bats, Blue tongued skink, a ball python and 2 panther chameleons, so she needs to give some away because the animals are taking over her house. The chameleon is a big step for me because I've only kept and bred leopard geckos. But when I helped out at the conservation center I took care of quite a few reptiles

Don't forget the dripper also....these animals require a humid atmosphere.....Chameleons do not drink from a bowl, but require the movemetns of drops off leaves to find their water.....
