Hey i got my cham back form the vet, things are acting good, but i noticed he keeps one eye closed his right eye.. but after taking him out of the cage he opens it up and uses it jsut fine, i am curious is he closing it because thats the direction the light is comming form? could it just be brite for him so he keeps it closed, or is there something more to this situation...

update: just checked again, he was out of direct light but looked like he was sleeping, so i woke him up and took him out just to see, and while he was out one eye (they left one) was open and looking around and the right eye stayed closed untill he squinted out of it then he began to open it and started using it? What can i do to help him out, i dont know what he could of gotten in it... possibly dirt form tyhe plants, other than that i have no idea?

guys just do me a favior, if theres something wrong, that you know of please just tell me and try to do it in a non- lecturing way, i am comming to you asking for help not to be rediculed, last time i posted i a picture i feel like a jerk because of how condesending some of the posts where... just help me make him better thats all i ask

When chams keep their eyes closed during the day, it is generally a sign of illness. If this is the case, you will need to see a vet and most likely get some blood work done. My jacksonni was like this when I first got him, and blood tests revealed an inflated white blood cell count, which meant that he was sick. I have been giving him antibiotic injections for the last 2 weeks or so and he really seems to be improving.

However, it is also possible that he has something in his eyes that needs to be cleaned out. Put him on a small plant or something for him to hang onto and put him in the shower for 30 minutes. Try to give him and indirect spray, or if you shower head has a "mist-like" setting, use that. He may hate it but he will benefit from it, one way or another. We should all be showering our cham regularly, anyway.

Also, double check all of your husbandry requirements and be sure that they are ideal. Maybe you could tell us how you keep her so we can better assist you, as well. Good Luck

Did you notice this eye thing while he was with the vet? The vet could tell you whether he has something in his eye, whether it's infected, or whether it's a symptom of something else being wrong.
Besides the eye thing, how does he act? Is he lively or lethargic? Depending on how he's acting, this might also indicate whether it's related to his eye, or merely a symptom of a greater illness.
If he just has something in his eye you can help by giving him warm showers. Your best bet is to take him back to the vet, get an opinion on his eye.

I looked at the last 5 pages of the forum, going back to about mid-June but I couldn't find the post that you are referring to. I am very sorry if you were made to feel like a jerk, or if you were ridiculed. Please don't let some distractors keep you from posting here, seeking information or just to say hi or otherwise. Chams close one eye for a lot of reasons, often it doesn't have anything to do with the eye itself. Why was it at the vet? If there is some other health problem going on sometimes the stress will affect the cham's immune system or add to low level dehydration. The most common reason chams start closing eyes is dehydration...and this is before their eyes start looking sunken. If there is no discharge from the eye itself (do the lids stick shut in the mornings?) the eye is not injured or infected. Can you describe your setup, watering regime, lighting (brands), temps, humidity, gutloads, dusting schedule (and brands)? We can help more with more info.

In the mean time you can ease the chams eyes by showering and spraying a lot more and raising its cage humidity. If the eye starts sticking shut or there is any discharge you may need to treat the eye itself with an antibiotic. If the eye is sticking shut you can help clean it by squirting sterile saline solution (contact lens rinse) at the eye and VERY GENTLY dabbing at the lid with a Q tip.
