Hey guys, my bearded dragon has been occasionally making coughing noises and seems to be coughing up mucus looking stuff. She’s been very active and drinking plenty of water but now she’s not eating hardly at all. I can’t afford a vet bill right now and I’m not really sure what to do to help her. I rescued her from a couple that didn’t really take that great of care of her.
If any of you know what I can do to get her to eat again and stop the coughing please let me know! It would be greatly appreciated.

We just got a new 18 mo bearded dragon a last week. She came in a 40 gal breeder and we provided her with a sand mat, 75W halogen basking light and Reptisun 10.0 UVB CFL. The lights are in reflective domes next to each other.
The basking spot gets to 110-120 degrees. The cold side during the day is 75 and at night it stays between 71-73 throughout.

We feed her mealworms, crickets and dubia roaches. We give her apple pieces and kale.

I have to travel for work and today, she threw up twice. First time was a combination of the kale and insects. The second time was mostly roaches. Looks like some white exoskeleton from the roach too.

She ate some meal worms recently and is acting fine. Is it the food? The kale is from a salad mix and might have some stalk on it. And the roaches were all different sizes and one mightve been too big.

Is the basking spot too hot or the cold side during the day too cold? I dont use supplemental heat other than the basking and temp of the room (72). I am thinking I can cover the top of the tank to keep some heat in but humidity down

So I have been out of the reptile world for some time now since I was living in Hawaii (did have a couple of wild Jackson chameleons that decided to make a home in my backyard for a while though). Now that I am free to own nearly whatever I want I decided to get a young beardie. Had one in the past but had to sell him when I got orders for Hawaii. Other than that I have had red tail boas, a savanna monitor, ball pythons, leopard geckos (bred them for a while for [bleep]s and gigs), prehensile skink, and mali uros. Anyhow I wanted to do a fully natural display tank for this little guy and this excavator clay looked pretty legit. Also I remember having a tub of it or something like it for the uros to dig in years ago and they loved it. I setup the tank last Friday morning FEB 16th. Let it dry under a heat lamp for 3 days and most of the day Monday until I introduced the beardie. Needless to say the [bleep] is still wet and making humidity sky rocket. Question is how long does this [bleep] take to dry!? Had to evict my daughters hermit crabs to a lowes bucket so the beardie had a place to stay that wasn't so humid. I did use quite a bit... 30lbs for a 20gallon tank (yes I know the thing will need a bigger tank and yes I know the risk of impaction. I have had every reptile I own, except the boas, on regular substrate and never had an impaction issue so not to worried about it). If this stuff takes a week plus to dry every time I have to clean the cage out its going to be a headache. I would appreciate anyone's experience with it, whether it be success or failure, and any tips for future use. Thought about molding coated mesh wire and layering the clay on top so it isn't as thick to help reduce the drying time. Any thoughts?

Hello everyone. A friend of mine asked me about her bearded dragon's odd behavior. I'm a snake person not a lizard person, so I decided to post here. He's in a 50 gallon aquarium on newspaper substrate with temps in normal parameters. Been eating and drinking normally. She says she simply turned on the lamps and he went nuts, running around the tank with his throat puffed and black. Episode lasted about 30 seconds and he returned to normal. Only thing I could of was maybe he saw his reflection or maybe acting territorial? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

So this is my first time breeding beardies! I've bred several reptiles before but got out of it when my children came into my world. My question is my female is 3 years old. Male 1 1/2 years old. I witnessed copulation twice but she laid 3 weeks later. 31 eggs. Only 7 were fertile. Is this normal with laying that early? She is a proven breeder this is his first year. Thanks for any input. And also any tips on getting a hovabator humidity up?? I bought it last minute till I get my custom fridge incubator finished. Bottom full of water, large container in full of water and still not going above 40%!! Thanks again!

A week ago I noticed small bumps under my beardie's scales that have a yellowish tint. When I hold them up to the light, they seem translucent like there is fluid underneath but it is not an open wound. I accidentally touched his back and he recoiled at contact like touching the bumps is painful for him. They are located along his spine and on one leg. Other than this concern, he is defecating and eating as normal.

Can anyone please give me some advice if they have seen this and guide me on what to do? I would greatly appreciate it

Hi. I have a 9-year old female bearded dragon who has developed a cancerous tumor in her right shoulder. I noticed her having a right-arm spasm every time she tried to use her arm and then noticed an internal lump developing on her shoulder. I brought her to Dr. Heidi Hoefer here in Long Island, NY, who took X-rays and said even though I brought her in as soon as I noticed the problem, unfortunately the cancerous tumor started in her lung and spread to her shoulder and is inoperable. She said if you attempt to remove it and don't get all of it underneath her ribs, it will become twice as aggressive and would have been all for nothing. Heidi told me if she had a dollar for every bearded dragon that comes in with a tumor, she'd be rich. She said she also has no idea why this happens. My beardie can no longer use her right arm and the ball is growing in size. Her Mom died in the same way at 12-years-old, in the exact same location. I assume it is hereditary. The tumor lasted a year before she died. My other 8 bearded dragons are completely healthy, so I assume it has nothing to do with their diet. They get calcium/D3 dusted and organic leafy greens every day (multi-vitamin weekly) and superworms every couple of weeks. She is eating well despite the tumor.

I'm wondering... it's supposedly a proven fact that cancer cannot exist in humans who are on a high PH / highly oxygenated diet. All you have to do is look at high-PH food charts online and eat fruits and vegetables that are alkaline/high PH. I wonder if I give these specific foods to her if it would shrink the tumor in a bearded dragon. Does anyone have experience or thoughts on this? If so, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello fellow Beardy Lovers,

I have a 4 year old female beardy and she has started sleeping and going into her winter shutdown (brumation) period. The only thing that I am slightly concerned about is the fact that she has not pooped for quite a while and was eating quite well prior to her winter shutdown. I was giving her baths and trying to see what I could get out of her and nothing. I am hesitant to bathe her now as I don't really want to disturb her while hibernating or throw off her cycle. On the other hand, once she is done her hibernation, I don't want her to be blocked up and have difficulty pooping. So, what do you all think? Despite the fact that she's in hibernation, should I take her out to bathe her to try and get her to poop, or should I just let things be for now and wait until she comes out of brumation again?

Any suggestions and advise would be awesome.

Hi. I have a 2 yr old beardie, she has not really eaten in the last month. I was thinking she was going through brumation, but she should have come out of it by now. Last year this time, she had the same behavior and then layed eggs a few weeks later. However, unlike last year she is starting to lose weight. I have some Oxbox Carnivore Care from the petstore and some squash babyfood, however she is refusing both of those. I bath her quiet frequently now, just to keep her hydrated and she will swim around in the water and also dunk her head under for a bit as well as drink it. Does anyone have any ideas on what else can be tried to entice her to start eating again? She is in a custom 120 gallon viv with her heat lamp, daytime lap and UVB lighting. I have the gauges to monitor her temperatures and humidity and they have all been in the normal ranges. As well, she has a fountain in her viv that she hangs out at on occasions.

I have a pair of beardies that i am trying to get to mate.
The male is 18 in and the female is 17 in. ..each 3 yrs old
Both are great eaters...especially the female
I have had them together a couple times for up to 2 days but i have never seen any signs of mating...
Should i leave them together longer?
They display all the signs...he head bobs and she does a slow head bob..
He bites her neck and holds her down but doesn't mate(that i have seen)
Her belly is getting bigger...
Just not sure what else to do...

I got my first silkie it looks great but has really dry skin and problems shedding. Is there some sort of lotion or skincare ointment that is specially made for silkie. I was told to soak him daily but im afraid it will dry out his skin more. any help would be great.

I have recently acuired the species Pogona Mitcheli and Pogona Barbata. I am having a hard time finding anybody in the US that is working with or has worked with either of these species of bearded dragons. They are all doing well but I was trying to get any information from people who have worked with them to see if their was anything that was difficult or lessons learned through experience I could gain knowledge from. If you or anybody you know has any information I would be thrilled to chat with them!

I rescued a bearded dragon 2 months ago, he/she was living in a not very nice house. Since I got him, he has shed his skin once, I bath him 2-3 times a week, give him fresh veg daily with calcium on, he has a basking light which gives him upto 110 degrees on one side and a uva/uvb light. He also has small brown crickets twice a day. I clean his tank out once a week, the floor of which is a green felt type material from Pets At Home which they recommend as he cant eat it by accident therefore preventing impactation. My worry is that he has started to smell really bad... I clear his poo as soon as I notice, that's smells bad but he now smells too!! Does anyone have any suggestions please? Hr is a really sociable pet and we love him dearly but he really smells at the moment
