I bought a female veiled chameleon from a pet store about a 2 weeks ago. They are unsure about the age, but i know she is at least 4 months old by how long they have had her and how long it took us to set her cage up. We are currently in the process of finishing her permanent large cage. Here is her set up:

Cage 16x24x24 screened except for the back Food: crickets dusted with calcium w/vitamin d twice a week, multivitamin 1x month. Lighting: repitsun uvb 5.0 and reptisun basking lamp. No heat source at night Water: dripper for most of the day and misting 3x day Plants: mostly artificial vines and small croton plant. Moved most of live plants to new cage already Temp: 87-90 basking depending on time of day, 72 in cool area.

My issue is she has been fine as far as activity and eating until yesterday. I noticed a change to darker green yesterday and she seemed sluggish. Today she drank first thing this morning but has only eaten 2-3 of her crickets. When I checked on her 2 hours later, she was laying on a branch with her front legs dangling. I took her out, cleaned her cage and she is moving fine but when she is in her cage she only wants to lay around. Her grip strength seems fine. Any ideas on what could be going on? I will take pics when I get home.

Hey everyone! First time poster here and I'm in the market for a panther chameleon. I've previously kept a veiled chameleon and now want to care for a panther. My local shop has a juvenile Nosy Be, which is already displaying some really nice blues for its size, but I'm not certain whether it's male or female! If it's male, I'm gonna snatch it up, but I have little experiencing sexing panther chams. All input welcome! Thanks a bunch!

Hey everyone,

So I’ve had a juvenile male veilded chameleon for a few months now. He’s about 8 or 9 inches nose to tip of tail. Anyway, he’s so shy! It irks me! One of them main reasons I got a chameleon is to see him and marvel at its majesty. This guy sprints for the hills every time I get near the cage. He’s Florida wild caught but I’ve had him for a while now and I just wish he wasn’t so fearful. I’d really love for him to just be content when I’m nearby and not have to run for cover.

If anyone could offer me any tips or or feedback for me regarding making him feel more comfortable in my presence I’d really appriciate it.

Oh and he’s in an extra large reptibreeze with lots of branches, plants, and cover. So he’s got the works when I consider what his housing situation is like.

Hello Chameleon Lovers!
I am interested in finding a group of possibly 10 like-minded folks to successfully breed and sell surplus of chameleon species which are not yet mass produced such as Parson's, Oustalet's, O'Shaugnessy's, etc...

We would need group members who would perform any of the following functions:
1. House and care
2. Invest

I would prefer folks in SoCal since I'm in LA County. If such a group exists, please contact me to participate if possible.
The goal is to reduce wild caught and ensure species from extinction.

We all know that exports of WC Panthers is currently a thing of the past, due to the 1st. My question to other breeders and hobbyists is what Locales do you want to see this year or in the next 5? I've noticed Faly's and a few other Locales have come and go due to supply and demand and trend but are they're any other FADs/Trends predicted? Any Projects anyone trying to start? Esp experienced breeders (tho's being into the business 10+ years preferably) (I want to do parsons but i have no room) I currently Have space for 6 Females - 3 open spots) and 1 open Male spot. And im looking to fill tho's spots with a trio (2 Fem/ 1Male) breeding pair. What are the Trends in the past years? What do You predict? Or are Amb's going to continue to dominate the market? and should I stick with them? I'd Like to do rarer or less marketed/ Bread Locales but I'm looking for advice. Thanks So much for any Information.

I know that this board has not been very active but thought I would ask a question. I am new to chameleons, working with a juvenile veiled. He has developed small lumps at the front of both eyes. They are not getting any larger, and don't seem to impact his prey tracking. I was wondering if this is normal, or something I should have checked out?

My female veiled chameleon laid 28 eggs on day #30 after being initially mated with our male. I could tell that she retained some eggs and after retrieving the ones she laid, I put the container with sand and pete back into her cage. I read on one of these forums somewhere that they sometimes will lay a second round at the 45 day mark, which is today. She dropped one on the bottom of the cage yesterday, but no sign of her laying any more and I'm guessing she has at least 4 more. She just stays dark colored, moves around ok, but not eating much, she is drinking. Has anyone experienced this before, I'm new at this and not sure if I need to take her to the vet. I appreciate any input more experienced breeders may have. Thanks!!

I changed the bulb from a 60 W day bulb to a 100W basking bulb. The only difference besides the increase in wattage is the new one is for basking. He turned brown and has not gone back to green. Is the 100 W to intense for him?

We added a veiled chameleon to our family she` 18 months to 2 yrs old. My husband has her in our bedroom but he uses Absorbine most every night. I won't let him use it until we know if the smell will harm our little girl. If anyone knows whether or not it is harmful to her please let me know.

I keep hearing they are in the teees and you can see them when driving by.. But everytime we go we don't see any. zeven when walking in the bush.

Are they not on the west side?

We are always looking in the Kaanapli/Lahiana area and north to Haunanama bay (sp?).. which is a wild area with not many houses or hotels.

are they on another part of the island? Is so can anyone tell me where? Which roads?

we also looked for them on the road to Hana but did not see any there either.

I have a sick veiled and I am not sure if there is anything else I can do. I think he is going to die. He was acting normal, but he had a bump on his nose and some bacteria on his mouth, so I took him to the vet. They gave him antibiotics and his mouth cleared up but then he started acting lethargic, sitting on the bottom of the cage, not eating and has not had a bowel movement in over a week. We tried soaking him for dehydration, the vet gave him medicine for parasites, we tried a powder food mixture, but he is getting worse. Any ideas to help?

So yesterday I locally picked up a panther cham that came with it's entire set up. The guy "knew what he was doing but didn't". He had a florescent light strip with a regular florescent light in it but went through the trouble of ordering a pro mist system. Anyway, he had a potted mountain laurel growing in a pot, is this a safe species to have in a cham cage? I've tried researching it but can't find anything saying yes or know so I took it our for now, but it did look quite nice. Anyway, lemme know if this is a safe plant and ill re pot and replace. Thanks!
