I watched a pbs video about how fiji iguanas rafted from the Americas to fiji.
It seems more logical that they came from Australia and evolved into their own species on an island, like a lot of other island reptiles in that area. Then rafted to the Americas to become iguanas. What is your opinion?

I have been a non-collector for over a decade, but still like to check in once in a while. This place is dead! Which form of social media has the best interaction? Every June the wild hatchlings appear. FWC is now encouraging citizens to kill non-indiginous species. Sadly all the big iguanas have been pellet gunned in my area, but amazingly the subadults are still producing clutches. The photo was a week ago in my backyard.

Recently got a Cuban rock iguana that’s not eating on his own. I had him for a week now. Sex is unknown currently and is a few weeks old it looks like. He’s currently little over a foot long baby still it looks. I mist in the morning once daily. I offer the juvenile growth formula pellets as that what the breeder was feeding. The brand is rep cal. But I tried greens and butternut squash and that wasn’t touched.
He’s currently in 40 gal breeder tank just temporary until I can build something better in the summer or spring. Wanna have him outdoors when the temps are better then 30 degrees currently and below. Lighting I use is 100 watt megaray bulb and next to it is regular 100 watt bulb. Mostly because the basking site was 86 degrees with a temp gun and that didn’t seem good. But is better currently. Any advice would be appreciated

hello everyone, i had an iguana his name was max, he lived to be 16 years old...he passed in 2005.
he was fed a diet of collard greens and fresh shredded veggies and i had a hibiscus in the room with him and he would snack on that.
i have been thinking about getting a baby from a rescue, this little guy was puschased and the people didnt know he would grow to be big, then he out out of the enclosure and was found 2 weeks later near death......
they only way i intend to get him is if i already have the neccessary equipment for him, i want to build him a cage using pvc pipes, but im not sure about the mesh.....
you see max had his own bed room when i had him, but im no longer living in the same home now now i live in a mobile home
could someone here tell me when i can find the correct mesh

This is the first year that US Iguana, Inc. will be offering visual SNOW IGUANAS (axanthic x albino) within the USA. Our previous years snow iguanas have been sold overseas only.
SNOW IGUANAS are bone white with pink/coral hues. The eyes are pink. They are a genetic powerhouse being a visual double recessive (axanthic x albino).
There is a ton of activity in the iguana morph world with new combinations and new morphs being proven regularly. Things are getting exciting in the LARGE lizard world.

So, my friend has a two year old iguana and his spikes seem to have multiple layers of shed that have not come off. As a long time snake owner, I know this is very unhealthy but unfortunately I don't have much experience with iguanas. Does anyone know a way to help this problem? Soaking and lubricants don't seem to be doing much.

I rescue animals of all kinds. I posted an iguana on my Facebook page, and someone that breeds reptiles contacted me and told me I had a red iguana, not a green one. Most of the time he mostly orange with some green. Today he was completely green. That's the first time I've seen him completely green. So, can someone tell me why my red iguana is green today?

You have a green ig. When they get sun they turn a pale orange. Mine did. A red ig is very red.

Every summer the new hatchlings come wandering along the canal edge in my back yard, usually in groups of two. Today it was a group of four !

I rescued an iguana 7 months ago. He is about 18 months old now. He is properly cared for with his enclosure, lighting, heat, water, food, humidity, hide spot, etc.
I have tried various methods to tame him, including handling and keeping him in areas of the home where he can see people frequently. His previous owner never held him. The situation is upsetting because he is still very aggressive. He tail whips and tries to bite every single time I come close. From what I’ve read, most iguanas can be tamed, but he might be that small percentage that can’t. We do not have many rescues in PA or surrounding areas for him to go to for expert care.
Should he be euthanized due to this behavior? Is there hope left?

I run a reptile and small animal rescue in North East Wisconsin. A couple days ago I took in a juvenile blue iguana. She is very small for her estimated age (vet says 6 months old). She also has a nasty spinal deformity from MBD. From what I've observed so far, she has use of both back legs and feet. She's clumsy but can support herself upright and can walk, run and climb. She has an appetite and quite an attitude.
She's finally receiving the proper care she needs, however, I'm not as familiar with iguanas as I am with other species. I'm doing as much research as I can to give her the best possible future.
Will the deformity interfere with her growth? Can you guys recommend anything or provide me with tips? Thank you in advance for your help!

I have one of these and havent had it too long. Its eyes are sticking shut when it sleeps. Temp is good and it is on turf mat. Just started about 2 weeks ago. I have heard several ideas UVB, super worm problems , humidity etc. Not sure what to try.

Hi I have recently been thinking about buying a green iguana. I was just wondering if they could be kept in a glass tank? My friend has one that is 48in L x 18.25in W x 24.5in H. Would that be suitable for an adult iguana?

No, not an adult, and glass is ok only indoors, if it is in the sun, it is like a magnifying glass and can cook an iguana pretty fast. Best to read up a bit more on green iguana care before taking on the responsibilty.

We got a baby axanthic blue shipped here and it arrived last Tuesday. Today we thought he/she had mysteriously disappeared only to find he was dark in color (stress, right) and had buried himself deep under his substrate (forest floor) under the food dish. We got him unburied and then checked on him 5 min later and he was completely submerged in his water dish with his eyes closed. His face head and everything. We got him out and he's pretty apathetic. We are new iguana owners but have experience with other advanced reptiles. Just want to take care of our new little one. Is something wrong or are we just being paranoid? Any advice welcome.

my hibiscus didn't make it through the winter, i kept it inside during the freezing cold but apparently it wasn't enough sunlight for it.
my local store just got in some "rose of sharon" labeled as "Hibiscus syriacus" i believe, i cant remember the last part of the name right now but it did say hibiscus and this is the name that came up when i was searching.
it also said that it was "deer resistant" on the tag. is this type of hibiscus edible for my iguanas?
i looked up rose of sharon and there are numerous plants that use that nickname, but this one said it was the hibiscus variety.
the "deer resistant" on the label threw me, it didn't say why. i would assume anything that says it is resistant to a pest usually means it isnt edible.
had anyone tried using this particular plant for their iggies diet?
thanks in advance, and it it isnt okay for them ill just have to wait a while until they get the same kind of hibiscus i got last year which is unfortunate because last time they didnt come in until fall.
i like the option of hibiscus for them because our markets green selection is horrible, they are usually wilted. (but i am making a garden this year that will have a some collard greens planted)
