Hello all.
I know the forums have been inactive forever, however I'd like to think there are still a few serious keepers referencing old posts on here (who are hopefully seeing this message!)

I am currently working on building up a group of Philippine sailfin dragons (Hydrosaurus pustulatus) and am looking to network and connect with other keepers who are working with the species with the intent to breed, or those who may simply have pets that contain genetic value.

Unfortunately, this specific species of sailfin is not imported unlike the other four species of the genus. So the gene pool is forever shrinking as it seems few people produce them on a frequent basis, and fewer keep track of lineage to avoid future (and likely soon to be...) detrimental effects of inbreeding.

I have spent the past five years talking to people who have records of their stock.
I have a well documented ID system of Scott Corning and John Steele's breeding stock (regarding founding animals and prodigy).
However, there are other lineages that are lacking in my books that I would like to know more of (Stock from breeders such as Ty Park, Switzer, BION, GX3, Anthony Sainz, and potential zoo overstock animals that have made their way into the private sector).

If anyone has knowledge on the genetics of their animals, who produced them (even the individual characteristics of the parents/parent animal whereabouts) I would greatly appreciate it.

If there are breeders possessing animals of non Steele or Corning lineage.
I would be very interested in collaborating with you on future projects to ensure planned out crossings can occur so thus species can stick around in the industry as others have.

Due to certain circumstances caused by the pandemic, I have been watching a friend's Chinese water dragon, Larry, for the last 6 months. Unfortunately, the owner is no longer in a situation to care for him and wants to be sure he is given to someone who can properly care and love him
Does anyone know of a trustworthy shelter or individual in the extended tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, etc.) who would take proper care of a gorgeous Chinese water dragon? All of his equipment (his tank, misting system, nutrient supplements, etc.) would be included, if necessary. Please let me know ASAP, any information is appreciated!

I see that the Water Dragon forum hasn’t been active for a few years. But seeing how time and husbandry has changed. I have been wondering if there are any newer keepers, or experienced keepers who are still trying to breed the species. I have a 1.1 and as of October 2018 through January 2019 they produced three healthy clutches of USCBB hatchlings and I am looking to see if there are any others producing F1 CWD’s in hopes that I can secure some unrelated blood to mix with any holdback CWD’s from my clutches.

Please help me. My Chinese water dragons eyes are always closed. She keeps them closed 99.9% of the time and her right eyes is practically swollen shut. When She Opens it, It Looks As Though her eye rotated downward and you can only see half of her pupil. Her eye lid is swollen and they look cloudy. I'm not sure what to do as there are very little views in my area that see lizards. Does anyone know what this could be?

My best friend has a Chinese Water Dragon, which he bought from Petco a few months ago. It seemed to be getting really healthy and bulking up but the last week or so it has been really inactive. It had a bad shed about 3 weeks ago but he put the lizard in water to help the shed come off and it did. Now on top of being inactive, it has a sort of red crust over its left eye and can't open it. He has been fed the pellets for lizards from the pet store, meal worms, and crickets on occasion. Is the lizard just not receiving enough moisture or does it sound like something more serious?

I have a female Chinese water dragon who is almost 7 years old. She has always been a great lizard. Recently she has stopped taking food from me and acts terrified of me all together. She will run away and hide at my slightest of movements. The only change that I can think of is that I had a bearded dragon as well and up until 6 months ago they shared a room (different cages of course). My bearded dragon went into liver failure and I had to put her to sleep. We removed her cage from the room so now my water dragon is the only one in there. I had both of them since they were babies. So I guess you could say they grew up together. I never put them together but they could see each other from their cages. My water dragon was eating fine but within the past month it has dramatically slowed down. If this is an emotional thing, does anyone have any advice on how to help her? Besides getting another reptile friend.

Hello all

I have owned my Chinese water dragon for around 4 and a half years, exactly 12 days ago he stopped eating completely no greens no meat food IE crickets worms fuzzes anything and WILL not accept of even consider anything. Day six i took him into our exotic vet and and he ran a ultrasound on him and also a blood test iam still waiting on the blood test he then told me that he is not lethargic and at this point there is nothing to worry about. He is BLOATED and has a slight hard spot below his rib cage and in front of his hind legs. ( i believe he is impacted he has not had a bowel movement in 12 days and maybe even more) we have been giving him warm bath about 4 inches of water and two cap full of mineral oil and plenty of tummy massages ( which the vet did once as well ) On that not i have never seen him react the way he is now, His name is spaz for a reason and the fella i had bathing him yesterday could turn him right on his back in his palm this is for sure the most unusual thing ever he is almost like in a state of sleep when he is in the tub eyes closed and just basically limp to a degree. we have cleaned his 72 quart water bowl out to see if there was and bowl movements and also there was one white sack about the size of three coffee beans??

iam having trouble getting pics up

he has three different parches in his cage the hottest being 97f , the middle being 90-92 f and the coolest being 87 f

he has a 10 UV bulb which he can get anywhere from 12 inches to 4 inches away all bulbs have been changes out just last month in the water tub there is a heater and a water fall and also a air bubbler

his cage dimension’s are 4’ x 3’ x 4’

can anyone please advise what to do or if anyone has experienced this first hand and has any info please help me out he was my first of many reptiles i want to make sure he has every chance possible

if someone can help me post would be awesome good

I am new to water dragons and have read a lot about them and what they need. I just thought it would be a good idea to join a forum. This is what i did when I got in to aquariums and it was the smartest thing i ever did. Nothing can beat information from real people that know from experience.

The only real question I have now is about feeding. I have crickets right now, but I think they are a little to large for my little guy. I got the smallest one they had so he could stay in a ten gallon I already had for as long as possible.

I plan on going out to buy smaller ones tomorrow. What ells should I feed my dragon and how much do I feed a little guy like this. He is only about 9 inches long nose to tail. I have had him since yesterday and Im not sure if he has eaten anything yet.

If any one can help thanks and if you have any other info feel free to add that too. Even if it is something I have already read, it never hurts to read it again.

My son has a water dragon that's about a year and half old. He was fine, never had any problems. He stopped eating about 2 weeks ago and is barely moving. We have left some super worms in his tank and he might be eating when we aren't looking. Last night I thought he was dead. We noticed a piece of mulch hanging from his mouth and it seemed to be stuck and he didn't look like he was breathing. My husband pulled it out and he acted like he was going to throw up. He started breathing(visibly to us), but he's still barely moving, no energy, and he let my husband hold him. He really looks like he's suffering. Not sure if this is something we're doing wrong. Is there a quick fix? All advice and suggestions much appreciated!

These new little guys are quite entertaining. The adult males resemble tuataras with their gray bodies and enlarged heads. Behaviorally they're quite similar to water dragons. We had some girls lay their eggs in transit, but we should have more eggs shortly.

I've already checked out the classifieds and what not but im more or less looking for info if these guys exist up here, can they be found in canada, who has them, if anyones had any luck importing them into canada and is breeding them up here? etc...

Or of anyone knows of breeders who will import to canada however most of the sailfin breeders seem to be on the east cost, which makes it a bit difficult when im on the other side of the continent. They dont appear to be CITES unless im mistaken.

Im still very fuzzy when it comes to the import process otherwise I would just send it to a local US airport and pick it up from there myself.

Any info anyone has would be great!

So, I have a friend that bought a Chinease Water Dragon from Petco. I know, probably not the best idea, as it was probably riddled with parasites. But anyway...

She kept it in a 10 gal tank (it was a small lizard) and put a background up on 3 of the sides. She did get a black ZooMed light for night time, but claimed it was keeping the lizard up at night, and he was like, jumping at the lightbulb.

Petco was feeding it some kind of pellets and mealworms...my friend managed to get it to eat some baby food and the can'o crickets crickets, the dragon wouldn't touch live or dried crickets, or the mealworms, live or dead.

The lizard died about a month or so later...not really sure why, though I think it might have been parasites.

Anyway, my friend would like to get another water dragon. I've heard they're harder to keep then iguanas...I'm afraid I myself don't know much about them (I keep hognose snakes...not lizards).

What I'd like to know is, is the setup she has for a water dragon sufficient? If not, what changes need to be made? She know's she will need a bigger enclosure for it as it grows. My worry is that the light does not provide enough UV for the lizard.

My friend is also curious, what other lizards she could look at, that are similar in appearance to water dragons and iguanas, but are easier to care for. I wasn't familiar with any (already suggested beardies or blue tongued skinks and got a "no" so I figured I'd as you all, and hope someone out there could offer some friendly suggestions.
