Man, these forums bring back so many memories. Crazy to think since 2020 it hasn't really been active again like it once was. Still an incredible resource though, even if you never post. You can spend hours scrolling through old threads, searching care information, and seeing the history of the hobby unfold.

Some of the original morph announcements and discussions happened right here. I still remember threads where morphs like Genetic Stripes were first being talked about and shared. Really cool piece of reptile community history.

Honestly, a lot of what we learned early on while building Snakes at Sunset came from old community discussions like these. The amount of knowledge archived here is insane.

Image attached. After extensive research I have decided to purchase my first ball python, a baby female enchi. I drilled a total of 86 holes in the tub with a 1/4 inch bit. There are 28 on the two long sides and 15 on the two short sides. Is this enough ventilation?

I’m looking to get my first snake and for obvious reasons decided not to go to a chain pet store. After looking into all the different cool morphs I honestly really like the normal type BPs. That being said I am having the HARDEST time finding a baby/young normal male ball python. I can find pretty much any other special morph I could want yet I can’t find a normal ball. There isn’t even a category/tag for them on here. The irony of the situation is actually pretty funny even in my frustration lol. If you know where I can find one from a good reputable breeder that does frozen thawed please tell me!

My ball python is irritated and idk if it's because of the new bark I gave him or what. He's definitely irritated when the rat is in there. I've been checking for mites but can't find any. And scale rot or fungus? Unsure

I'm concerned about my ball python who is about 11. I've had him for about 9 years and he has never been sick. Was just told he might be a girl cuz he's about 4.5ft lol

Concerns: occasional gaping, keeps aggressively rubbing his face and body against stuff, discolored lines on belly, some weird scales and pealing near nose, dried blood on nose, soaking in water bowl, won't eat, weird texture on the tip of his nose

1) I think the lines are scrapes from the bark that got filled in by dirt but rubbing it with a wet paper towel does nothing, so idk. Otherwise, thinking maybe he is developing scale rot? His humidity has been off but too low, not too high.

2) unsure if maybe he is also developing a respratory infection? He doesn't have any mucus and us not wheezing though. The dried blood could just be from rubbing his face on everything so hard.

3) someone else said he might have a fungal infection?

Recent changes which could be causes: I put bark from the woods in his enclosure, it seemed like he really liked it. Also, he hasn't been eating much recently and the past 2 weeks I've been trying to get him to eat a rat but he hasn't, so it has pooped and peed inside but I took out what I could and was going to clean it after he ate...also, the past 2 weeks the enclosure has been too dry. I think I'm going to change his substrate because I think it's been drying out way too quickly recently.

I just cleaned his cage today and put in paper towels for now as a substrate. I also took out the bark and replaced his hide with the original plastic one I had.

Other than that, I know that to treat scale rot, the enclosure needs to be a bit more dry and clean. And I saw stuff about soaking him with betadine/water solution. But this kind of conflicts the respratory infection treatment (higher humidity). Not sure what to do about that. Also not sure if this is actually what is happening. Maybe you guys can check the photos to give advice?

I asked a bunch of ppl online and they said it's probably mites, but I don't see dots in between scales, so idk. Tried soaking him to check but I can't tell because the substrate dirt particles would get in the water too.

I just want to Introduce my New Morph called the 'Nguyen' ball. the one pictured is combo with yellow belly. The Nguyen ball is a subtle morph but in combos will have different looks to them. Still having a hard time telling these 2 apart. I've been looking a images online, watching videos & still not 100% on this clutch.

Pairing was a Mystic Potion to Calico Pastel

I'm thinking this little guy is a Mystic Calico (thought he was pastel too but after a few sheds I don't see the pastel) He's super bright and the black is very dark.

Have gotten eggs from 3 different pairings. They're large, with visible red veins, fairly firm, good weight, but they all look like big wrinkly prunes. They're not turning brown, nor do they smell rotten. Just look like giant prunes.
I have my doubts about going full term on these. Anyone else get this "look" and have them hatch out. Most are 2 - 3 weeks along.

So I would love a little input. I have a baby albino spider ball python that I got about a 3-4 weeks ago. I was having trouble getting him to eat but did finally get him to take one on Saturday. My question is that his body looks wrinkly and I was wonder if anyone knew what that could mean. I’m not sure if it’s from his refusing to eat. It’s not his skin that’s wrinkled, it’s like the muscles under the skin. Hopefully I’ll get the picture to upload correctly. He also has some random dented scales but he is pretty active so that could be due to exploring his tank. He’s only about a foot long so he’s definitely young.

First pic of a young proven male Het Caramel Albino. Bred back to his mother, they produced 3 visuals, sadly were kinked, so had to euthanize them. But I didn't breed them for the possible Caramels, to me he looks like some pics I've seen of Lace Black Backs, or possible Het Red Axanthic...I'm no expert in the morphs, only been breeding Pythons for about 3 years...and they're so many variations...also a pic of one of his babies, that resembles him...Any thoughts are appreciated, no herpers, breeders locally to discuss this with, and I don't do social media...If nothing, no big deal, I raise them for the pleasure they bring me.. The question: Is a hidden snake a happy snake?
Snake details: MC is a male Mojave ball. He's approx 900 grams, 2.5 years old. Eating a rat twice monthly, no feeding problems. Humidity and temp are controlled and within range. Yes, I use an aquarium with a bulb. It is what he came with and it works.
The behavior: MC has shown he is a good climber. At first I thought I must have a ball who enjoys climbing, so I added some branches for him to climb. Then I noticed he was out all the time. As much as I love him, all the reading I've done says balls don't like to climb and the over activity is a sure sign he's stressed. So, 72 hrs ago I modified his cage to the current set up. He is back to his hide all day behavior. Do you know any happy climbers? Is this set up Okay? I really want him to be a happy snek.

So i picked up my first ball python Saturday evening and now she's acting strangely. She's a baby, looks like she's had one shed as a couple old scales are still stuck to her tail but otherwise looks fine. Sometimes she rolls her head upside down which kind of concerns me but she always manages to turn it right side up without problem. She does it mostly when she's trying to roll into a ball, like she's rolling back on herself. So that was the first strange thing but i'm not sure if that's normal for a ball or not. Then this morning she latched on to my sons shirt sleeve, she didn't rear back and strike though, just meandered over there and bit it. I mean to feed her today as the store people said to wait at least 4 days for her to settle so I thought maybe she's just hungry. I put her back in her tank to leave her be until the store opens and then she bit herself! I thought she would release right away but she just sat there with her body in her mouth. So i took her out and unhooked her jaws from her body and thankfully she didn't try to do it again. Does anyone have any ideas? Do you think she's just really hungry and because she's a baby just latching on to anything? Or did I get a defective snake? Her tank has all the correct heating and substrate that she needs. I bought a male and female ball python from a local pet shop. The male is 130 grams and the female is 140 grams. At the pet shop they were in the same tank. I bought both and have them together here at my home as well. They are young snakes and i noticed their tails were locked. They are well under the weight i have read about for breeding. Will breeding even be possible and if so will it be harmful for my snakes or the offspring? Do i need to separate them?

I had recently bought my first pet snake a little over a week ago and so far everything is running smoothly other than the fact that I have to regularly mist his cage for the gauge to reach 50. I have had numerous reptiles in the past and was able to maintain this pretty easily and I know that I shouldn't have to struggle with this at all. I even bought a slighter bigger water bowl because I read that that can help maintain humidity. I currently have "Aspen Snake Bedding" by Zoo Med spread evenly throughout his cage. His case does have screens at the top and have even attempted to place objects over it in hopes to close in all the moisture but that barely does the job. Is there something that I am doing wrong? Is there anything else I should be doing? Thank you.
