I have just 1 painted, he's always lived alone and he does not like to be handled. He'll beg for food, he'll act interested in seeing me when he's in his tank, he's not afraid of me when I walk into his room. When I walk in he'll just continue to bask if that's what he's doing, nothing going on around him ever bothers him, but he just does not want to be handled. So I only handle him on tank cleaning day.
