I have two beautiful 6 year old (approx) Russian tortoises and have one that insists on hibernating. The female is doing well, active, and feeding daily. The male is not interested in anything and simply sleep constantly. His weight is good and he is not losing.

I do bath him no less than once a week.

I have them in the reptile room in the house - not a cool place.

I have even tried putting him in the hot spots - he simply leaves them and goes to sleep somewhere.

Any suggestions on how to wake him up?

If the male is otherwise healthy, let him be. He may have his own schedule, and you are only trying to force him to follow your schedule.

Keep him hydrated and allow him another week or so to come up. Watch for runny nose, eye problems, etc.

Don't force him into the heat. Let him sleep.

It takes my russians a few days to get going after they are out of hibernation. I hibernate my torts about 90-100 days.

Good luck.
