I agree.. let's find out for sure what species this turtle is before you do anything else.
I have seen turtles labled the wrong species in pet stores too so you do need to know exactly what you have.
WCT has a species photo gallery, start with their website & see if you can find a photo of a turtle like yours or take a photo of it & post it here.
