This may not answer your question, but the only reason I can think of(asides from breeding/morphs) is that leopard geckos are simply seen more often in pet stores. You go into any pet store, chances are they have leopards. Not alot have fat tails. Maybe 1/5 do. However, fat tails must be popular, because when I do see them for sale, they are gone fast.
