I picked up a turtle (adult male slider) off the roadside this morning- face is pretty smashed up, one eye gone, couple of cracks in the shell...but behaving fine (no noticable brain damage), no heavy bleeding. My vet gave him a shot of antibiotic and we're going to see what a couple of days brings, but I'd like to clean the poor fellow up a bit. I'm trying to remember turtle first aid- aren't you not to use iodine on them or something? I'd like to clean up his head, one front foot and shell of the abrasions, but I don't want to use anything that'll make things worse. I've seen turtles recover from some amazing injuries, but I always got them much later in the process!
Thanks for any advice.
