I, like millions of others, was shocked and saddened at the sudden and tragic death of Steve Irwin. I've never claimed to be his biggest fan, but did watch his TV shows if I had the chance to catch them. I sometimes cringed at his seemingly careless method of handing certain animals (namely venomous reptiles), but I always knew that he did have a level of expertise regarding these magnificent animals that few could match.

What I admired about Steve was his almost child-like enthusiasm towards everything that he did...on camera at least, nothing he did seemed like routine to him. He always had that same twinkle in his eye and that air of excitement that really made you believe that HE believed in everything he said and did. He was a great proponent towards conservation, and took every opportunity to educate and enamour the general public with the world's wildlife, especially the more misunderstood or reviled species (i.e. reptiles, sharks, etc.). In his 44 years, I'm sure he did more than most of us could ever hope to accomplish. Steve, farewell buddy. It's sad to see you go, but your memory and mission of conservation will live on, be assured of that.
