I usually do it with a small flashlight, any kind that takes 2 AA batteries will work as long as it is done in the dark. Also I usually only do it a couple times and if I see veins I don't do it again. I only do it to make a note of how many are fertile which I later compare with how many hatch to see what percent of fertile eggs hatch.
