That is interesting. It only takes about 1 to 2 seconds to candle an egg. I usually do it with a small flashlight, any kind that takes 2 AA batteries will work as long as it is done in the dark. Also I usually only do it a couple times and if I see veins I don't do it again. I only do it to make a note of how many are fertile which I later compare with how many hatch to see what percent of fertile eggs hatch. The species are L. alterna, L. mexicana, L. ruthveni, L. pyromelana, L. triangulum, L. getula and Bogertophis subocularis. I have not noticed any ill effects.
