Hi there,

I recently came into ownership of a pair of LTC/WC AFT's with unusual colouration. No-one is 100% sure on what the genetic makeup of these two geckos is, and since its a bit on the exciting side of things I thought I'd start up a post incase anyone wants to follow the little project.

Various friends have had various opinions. Some think they are Leucistic, some think a new strain of albinism/amelanism, others think they are just unusually pale albinos/amels. Any thoughts of your own? I've heard of similar things in the States but I'm UK based.

After some expensive health problems with the male and repeated egg-reabsorption with the female I've now got a clutch of good & fertile looking 'leucistic' eggs cooking. I've also got myself a breeding age & size female of the conventional amel/albino strain with the idea of proving out the 'leucistic' gene, but she doesnt seem to take kindly to my males advances yet.

^^^The 'leucistics' when I first recieved them, top = female, bottom = male.

^^^The female amel/albino.

^^^Comparison between the male 'leucistic' and female amel/albino. He has put alot more weight on since this picture was taken, but notice the lack of paterning on the male, and how he doesnt have 'fleshtone' coloured bands like albino/amels do where the darker bands are on normals. There isnt even a crescent on the back of his head like other AFT's. The female leucy is identical to the male except she is smaller and has a regen tail.

^^^ Eggs from leucy x leucy mating, incubating for female and will be 60 days on 16th November.

So, anyone else working with a similar looking gene in the US or Europe? Anybody have any thoughts on these two oddballs?
