A hatchling would be utterly lost in a 20gallon tank. I have two month-olds in a 2.5 gallon.

I keep the tank around 75 (it's in my 'warm herp' room). I feed them blackworms. These guys aren't really baskers. In the wild, they may go into the warm shallow pools on the sides of rivers, but they don't really come out to bask.

I will use sand when they get older, but when they're young, it's much easier to monitor eating and poop habits in a bare tank.

Life span is upwards of 50 years at least.
