hordak,

Sadly, and to the frustration of many a frog keeper, sexing frogs is quite difficult in most cases, and usually requires several experienced keepers to ascertain a frogs actual gender. As far as the darker throat, that's a physical charastic usually accurate in determining a frogs sex; in this case you're right, it would be a male. If you can though, see if there's a specialty shop near you where the staff can give your frog a look at and a second opinion. As far as getting your frog a partner, the sex of a tankmate will make little difference in the frogs' tolerance of one another. Even breeders keep males and females toghther only long enough to mate, then they are promplty seperated again. So it would be unwise to house more than one in an enclosure, even if they are of a similiar size. If you do plan on breeding them, I would reccommend doing a thorough amount of research before even considering adding a second frog in with the one now. Mixing these frogs can be very risky. For example, I once housed a juvinile tomato frog, and two horned frogs in a divided 20 long tank. The tomato frog managed to climb over divider and into one of the horned frog's enclosures, the horned frog (though not much bigger than the tomato frog) attempted to consume it. I interrrupted the act in time, but this goes to show you how voracious these frgs are. Just exercise caution if you do wish to breed them. Well, I'm finished. Bset of luck to you.

Regards, EMWhite
