I'd say late spring. If you buy now there's a good chance they would go down for winter - the Arg you might not see until May and the blue might make an appearance now and then but may not be the voracious animal it will become as the weather warms.

I've had both and like them both. Argentines get bigger. With either it's a matter of personal preference, and as I said the Arg could go into true hibernation even in a perfectly warm cage, and you might not see it for months. It's not good to disturb them when they go down.

Either way you can't lose if you want a hardy, impressive animal without complicated care. Reds are very nice too -- they require fruit as a major part of their diet and may have shedding problems that you'd have to address. Reds can also go down for winter, probably with occasional visits and slower behavior.
