You're right, I don't much see freckles, unless you are talking the speckles on the sides where they are close to the coir fiber. It can discolor the eggs and in my opinion it is hard to monitor the moisture using coir fiber, it stays pretty moist. I really prefer perlite. The eggs stay a bit dryer while the moisture is more in the lower layers and the air around them. I have successfully incubated in coir though so it can be done.

I really don't worry unless the eggs get sticky or slimy and turn yellow, pink, or orange. They usually get a smell like urine or amonia too if they are bad.
