Yes, this photo was taken just after this female left the water. I have found equal parts male to female ratio where she was located. I believe with this species, its all in the timing. I have found Females in my range come out of hibernation between the first week of March and the first week of April. The water is still very deep at this point. They stay in the water for a bit and are very inactive at first. I have found both males and females on the banks between March and May and rarely have found more than babies in the water after the waters recede. The Wood turtles here likely use the River/Brook for travel and is likely the cause of them seeming scarce certain times of the year where they were abundant before. I have never found Wood turtles more than 1/2 mile from a permanant source of water. Thanks, Leo Skin & Scales
