Here's my setup. It's a 40 gallon tank which houses a large male, which I've had for over 10 years, as well as two females which I've had for around five years.

The salamanders spend most of their time burrowing, but they associate people with food (I hand feed them) and will come out from time to time to "beg" to be fed (this usually involves them jumping and snapping at people).

There is a water dish that is about 8 inches in diameter hidden behind the plant at the right of the photo. The water is about an inch deep. The salamanders seems to enjoy hanging out in the water for hours at a time.
