smokeys are a large frog from central and south america. their care a feeding is similar to that of north american bullfrogs, except they will spend more time on land. i had two 7" smokeys i kept in a 75 gal. tank with a screen on half and glass on the other half to help hold in humidity, but keep good air flow as well. i kept a large water bowl that took up about 1/4 of the tank, it is very important that you change the water at least once a day. most specimens of this species are wild caught and are nortorius for haboring bacteria which is excreted in its feces. if the frog is left with dirty water and it sits in it for any length of time, it can aquire an external bacterial infection which can kill the frog very quickly. the water level should be deep enough for the frogs to submerge themselves. you should provde a soil substrate in the rest of the tank, something along the lines of bed a beast. moss, wood structures, caves, and live plants should be provided accordingly. these frogs are a species that generally will consume anything that moves and in large quantities. crickets and earthworms ar favorites, along with f/t mice, small chicks, freshwater soft-bodied fish, mealworms, smaller frogs (green,bull,leapord,etc.). they can at times be picky eaters and a little skiddish, but over time can be weaned to hand feeding from tongs. a flourscent light should be provided, i use a repti-glo 5.0 bulb. these frogs are from warm areas and do like temps in the mid 80's, but tend to be burned easliy by heat lights and ceramic heat emitters, so either 2 low watt bulbs, 15-40 watt red or black bulbs can be used, though a external tank heat pad is a best choice. if you do a yahoo search, you should be able to find some sites with good info.
