Your tank may just need to quickly cycle through. That may be the reason the algae is growing so much. With the film, is your water circulating and do you have surface agitation? Also you may want to check the water parimeters. See if the water is hard, soft, ect. Its most likely pretty hard.

Currently in the US Navy so I have sold off my collection. But over the years I have had dozens of turtles, fish, geckos, and other lizards. Cant wait to get back in the hobby once im out though!
