This is a picture I pulled from a website about ragged chutes trail. I've herped this trail before, and found a few toads. This habitat looks exactly the same as the habitat at my cottage, about 1 hour from ragged chutes. To me it looks like great herp habitat, but all I've found in this habitat are american toads, blue-spotted salamanders, red back salamanders, one garter snake, spring peepers, wood frogs, and one redbelly snake on the edge of the forest. That list isn't bad, but I have search quite a bit and have only found one redbelly snake. There are creeks running through the forest that have little pools in summer; should I herp around the creeks more to find more things? My targets are redbelly snakes, ringneck snakes, and actually just any snake that could be found in this habitat. Also I am looking for gray treefrogs, is this suitable habitat? To me this looks like great habitat for redbelly snakes and other small woodland species, but I haven't found one under all the logs I've flipped. I think maybe I am not spending enough time. Should I put out some boards and leave them for awhile then check underneath them? What time of day is best for finding redbelly's under cover? Thanks,
