I want to find redbellies, milks, and smooth greens. I think I'll go herping near the road where I found the DOR milk. My Mom told me she saw a DOR snake on the way into the cottage, and from the description it sounds like a redbelly or a ringneck. I'll go there and lay some boards down in the surrounding field. It's prime habitat, right on the forest edge with tall grass and some open rocky areas. I'm going to Ontario again in July and August, so I'll lay down some boards in May and hopefully by summer time the snakes will have found them. I've attached the photo of the habitat in the woods at my cabin. Does this look good for Redbellies? There's actually been black ratsnake sightings there as well. The only redbelly I've found was in the open about 5 feet from the lake, crawling out from under an old barn. I've flipped logs behind the barn in the summer, but never have I found a redbelly concealed any. Would May be better for this? Also, I found some habitat at parrot bay provincial park that looks good. It is a big field on the edge of thick forest, and in the field there are old building foundations. There are just walls, and lot's of stone and tin is on the ground. There are tons of garter snakes there, but when my cousin and I started flipping things bee's came out and attacked, which wasn't fun. It also was too hot to find something under tin. Would it be worth it to drive there in May? Only one more question - last year I went to the Indian River Reptile zoo near Peterborough. On the herp journal I read a lot about herping near Peterborough, are there any spots that I should check out? While driving I noticed some wood piles near train tracks; would this be suitable habitat? Thanks for your help,
