the snakes sake. Its too easy for people to find (and remove) snakes from under boards but people can't find them when they're hidden in their natural environment. The snakes are still there James, you just have to look harder. Remember, not everyone has the same kind intentions towards snakes that you have. Also remember that they have lived without boards for the last 100 million years or so and have done pretty well
