This summer I got 6 new lifelister's! They were as follows:
1 Mudpuppy found in shallow rocky water at dusk
1 Western chorus frog
2 Northern two-lined salamanders
1 Pickerel frog
1 Eastern Milksnake
1 Northern ringneck snake
The milksnake was found under a board in a roadside ditch outside of Lansing, Michigan. The ringneck was seen crawling across the path at my cottage. I don't get how I can flip cover until my hands ache, peek under bark until my eyes are tired, and not find a snake, and then walk down to the lake and on the way find a ringneck snake. I also found a redbelly snake in the open last year. I took some great photos that I will probably post later. Thanks to everyone who gave me tips for finding snakes. I think my biggest accompishment was finding that milksnake. What a rush to see it curled under there! Other herps found were:
Green frogs
Leopard frogs
Bull frogs
American toads
NO mink frogs(!?)
Painted turtles
Blandings turtle
Snapping turtles - one snapper, a young adult, was found by my cousin basking on open rock at least 10 feet from shore. I have never seen this before
Red-sided garter snakes (in Michigan under trash at the hotel)
Eastern garter snakes
Blue-spotted salamanders
Red-backed salamanders
Red eft
Thanks,
James
