AVID is one of the cheapest and in my opinion one of the better ones.

I have chipped hundreds of mammals and reptiles, and find not difference between home again, avid and trovan, other than cost

Certain countries require all imported animals to be chipped, and i have personally chipped some pretty small animals.

Best location for me, in a snake would be SQ on the right hand side of the tail, just cranial to the vent. Same would be true in any lizard, basically just in front of the right hind leg where the dorsal and ventral scales meet.Make sure that you are SQ and just ease the chip in. the needle seems huge (14g), and sometimes a bit of tissue glue is needed to close the hole, but most times they are ok with out. Its a simple procedure that should be as easy as a SQ injection.

cheers, don
