Mangalore: Three boys from the neighbourhood of Pilikula Nisargadhama walked into the office of the warden of the wildlife enclosure on Tuesday afternoon and handed over a sack saying they had caught a snake in their village.
The official in charge of the snake park found a Russell's Viper coiled in the sack.
The boys Nausheer and Dolphie Gama, both studying in the eighth standard, and Abhishek, a third-standard student, had brought the venomous reptile to the wildlife enclosure for safekeeping.
The viper had swallowed a rodent and was resting when the boys caught it.
Lester Mahesh of Animal Care Trust, Shaktinagar, told The Hindu that snakebites kill 50,000 people in a year in the country, and Russell's Viper bites were fatal.
Mr. Mahesh warned people to keep away from such snakes.
