Some tegus tend to jump and cut their snout with the mesh. Maybe you can cut sections for the UV and basking light with a jigsaw and put some small heavy duty mesh. I've never heard of that kind of wood before....sorry. Look up info on thetegu.com under the cage section. Many people use melamine or plywood sealed with polyurethane.
