Newt distressed!!

Hi, I've had my 3 newts for 2-3 years now, no problems, but I just bought a new waterfall filter yesterday (tetrafauna reptofilter waterfall) and 2 of them seem to be struggling with the adjustment. Is it because the water is being disturbed, or is that not an issue with newts and they're still getting used to it? Also, how long can newts stay under water?
