Hi to all, I haven't posted in years, but I still have blue spotted salamanders from an ephemeral pond that you guys helped me identify and raise. They are about 8-9 years old and doing well.

None have ever breed or laid eggs, so I was very surprised to find one of the larger 'manders', assumedly female, has become amazingly large in the past week or so. ‘Her’ whole abdomen is about the size of a normal highlighter (sorry, the best common reference I can think of). I have moved her into a holding tank with a couple of inches of water, moss, grasses and plenty of shallow rocks she can climb to be on dry land if she prefers.

Is she getting ready to lay eggs? She doesn’t seem sick and has been eating that I know of, any suggestions? I recognize it’s early for laying in WI. The manders are kept in the basement and although they are given sufficient light, photoperiod and weather patterns are not near natural conditions.

Any suggests are more then welcome, thanks again Katie
