Does anybody know if the Blue Tegu has been described in a scientific journal? I see people in the hobby refering to it as a subspecies of Tupinambis teguixin, but by looking at a few morphological characteristics, it appears to be more similar to the larger tegus (i.e. T. merianae and T. rufescens). The young of the blue tegus look very similar to the larger species and the scalation looks similar. Also the blue tegu has two loreal scales where as T. teguixin only has one. Just wondering if the accepted taxonomy of the hobby has any backing. Any information would be appreciated.
