I know from what I've read that male tortoises can be very territorial. I've even had the pleasure at this horrible pet store in my town to see what happens when the owner puts a pair of red foots in with his HUGE male sulcata (smash). But here is my question... I have a little almost 2 year old Hermann's tortoise who ended up being male. This summer I'm getting a new place and am going to set a nice pen for him outside. I wouldn't mind getting another Hermann's. I already know I should probably get one about the same size as my guy. Problem is females aren't the easiest to come by. I don't want to breed him anyway, or at least not at this time, since I have enough breeding reptiles and this tortoise really is more my spoiled "baby".

So I was wondering how bad it would be to get him a little male "friend". If there aren't any girls around how bad are male Herman's torts with each other?

Obviously proper quarantine and health checks would come first and I'd start with supervised introductions.
